Tolerance of Topamax

I have been a space cadet.

I think it was the combination of the topamax and Depakote that was really giving me fits. I still feel quite a bit loopy with just the Topamax but its better that being on both by far.

So how "out of it" does Topamax make me? Hard to Judge... Cluster cycles themselves make me feel that way, so the only way I could really know would be to stop taking it and see how my cycle is at the moment without the meds. I'm pretty sure the plan is for me to stay on some preventative for the rest of my life.

What the hell should I to do? Stay confused in between cycles and hope to prevent new ones or enjoy my potential "Time off" to the fullest. ugh.

  • Hi there. I'm new to this blog and I'm willing to read it bit by bit 'cos it seems to be so interesting!

Well, I wanted to ask you a question which doesn't have to do with the topic. While I was browsing this blog, I noticed an application which counts how many users visit this blog. I got interested and would like to know how to install it on the very same blog.

    Thank you for your time.

  • maltavision,

I hope your interest in the blog is because you find the subject interesting and not because you are getting them yourself. If it's the former I certainly encourage anyone to learn about the condition, the more people know about it the better off people who get these will be. If it happens to be the former, all I can say is the usual, I'm sorry we have this in common.

    That counter comes from...

Thanks for stopping in all the way from Malta. : )

  • My name is Maree Sneed and i would like to show you my personal experience with Topamax.

I am 27 years old. Have been on Topamax for 3 months now. Had severe debilitating migraines at least 2x a week. Had to stay in bed. I have a 7 year old. I was missing out on everything. Now I can get out of bed and get on with my day. I am down to maybe 1 migraine a month and it is functional not crippling.

I have experienced some of these side effects -
weight loss, no appetite, severe mood swings, emotional, yucky taste to cola, thirsty, thirsty, thirsty, extreme fatique

I hope this information will be useful to others,
    Maree Sneed

  • Thanks for posting about your experiences Maree. I am sure it will in fact be usefull to people browsing this blog. : )

I am sticking with Topamax for the time being. Not much else I have ever tried has made much impact on my cluster cycles but Topamax may be the first preventative that I can somewhat endorse... I also find that I have had some "interesting" new problems since starting the medication, So its a bit of a mixed bag.

Thats almost always the story though for me. But for someone who tolerates Topamax a bit better, I think it could be a great thing. If my odd issues don't level out in a few weeks I may try something else.

I hope you and I both get to live without pain someday. Good Luck to you!

    Doc.
